Itinerary of Our Latest Trip

January – February 2025

THE CAMBODIA THE TOURIST DOESN’T SEE

  • The breathtaking wonder of the Angkor temples , as if the gods themselves had set them in the heart of the jungle.
  • The magic of the Apsaras Apsara, the celestial dancers.
  • The villages where gestures are still the same as those carved in stone a thousand years ago.
  • The encounters with remarkable people who have become part of the country’s living history.
  • Before departure, a meeting with Marilia Albanese , scholar of Khmer art, and with journalist Germana Leoni , who lived in Phnom Penh in the early 1990s.

Quando il viaggio diventa incontro

Where the Journey Becomes Encounter

My journey to Cambodia began long before I even left home — through readings, research, and questions... and thanks to my encounter with Marilia Albanese, scholar of Khmer civilization and author of The Treasures of Angkor. Once there, everything became real. Every word I had read or heard took shape: colors, scents, sounds, the light, the red earth, the people. Travelling […]

Riflessioni sul mio viaggio in Cambogia

Reflections on My Journey to Cambodia

It was my first time joining a group trip, yet what I experienced with Il Nodo Onlus was far from the typical “organized tour.” From the very beginning, I felt like a privileged traveler — given the rare opportunity to discover Cambodia not as a tourist, but from within, guided by people who […]

Ritorno alle origini

Return to the Roots

After 18 years, we finally returned to Cambodia. Vong, my son, looked like a little fish back in his own water… It was deeply moving to see him walk through the places of his childhood, to watch him eat his favorite foods with such joy and appetite. For this first journey back to Cambodia since the adoption — when Vong was just five years old — choosing Martina to guide us was truly the best decision we could have made.

Cambogia, la testimonianza di Antonia

Cambodia, Antonia's review

The wonder of Angkor. A perfect fusion of architectural ambition and spiritual devotion. The enchanting Apsaras — celestial nymphs — dance gracefully along its walls, while 800 meters of bas-reliefs at Angkor Wat accompany visitors through the most iconic temple-mountain, a miniature representation of the universe, surrounded by the “oceans” of its moat reflecting its sublime beauty. [...]

Un incontro che fa riflettere

An Encounter That Makes You Reflect

One thing is certain: Francois Ponchaud is an extraordinary man. A scholar, engineer, and inventor, he has devoted his life and his talents not only to the Church but to the poorest of the poor. A French missionary who has lived in Cambodia for over half a century, he is the man who translated the Bible into Khmer. He […]

Al ritorno dalla Cambogia

Upon Returning from Cambodia

<< Cambodia struck and deeply unsettled me for its contradictions. I had seen in Africa, the Middle East, and Latin America the painful imbalances of developing countries — but never such harsh contrasts, and seemingly, ones so self-destructive. The country known to the world for the extraordinary and harmonious blend of […]
